DURHAM, N.C. — Rocky Mount City Councilman Timothy Jerome “T.J.” Walker Jr. was arrested Saturday, October 10, during North Carolina Central University’s homecoming festivities, according to reports citing law enforcement and court documents.
Walker, 34, faces two charges:
Felony: Possession of a firearm on educational property.
Misdemeanor: Carrying a concealed handgun.
According to a magistrate’s order, Walker allegedly possessed a Glock 23 Gen 5 handgun while on NCCU’s campus.
NCCU Campus Police arrested Walker, and authorities set a $10,000 secured bond. Walker subsequently posted bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, at 8:45 a.m.
Walker represents Ward 4 on the Rocky Mount City Council, with a term extending through 2027.
The City of Rocky Mount acknowledged the arrest but declined to comment on the pending proceedings, saying the matter would be handled through the judicial process.
Walker has been charged, not convicted, and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Legal context
Under N.C. General Statute § 14-269.2, knowingly possessing a firearm on educational property is generally a Class I felony, subject to statutory exceptions. A concealed carry permit does not automatically authorize someone to carry a handgun throughout a university camp
