MASTIC BEACH, NY — Longtime Mastic Beach civic leader Kevin Collins has been honored by the Town of Brookhaven for years of service to the community.
Councilwoman Karen Dunne Kesnig recognized Collins before the September 17 Town Board meeting and declared the day “Kevin Collins Day” in the Town of Brookhaven. Collins recently stepped down as president of the Mastic Beach Property Owners Association, where he had been active in a range of local projects and events.
According to the Town, Collins helped oversee renovation projects at Marina One at the Mastic Beach Yacht Club and organized community events including snapper derbies and children’s Halloween parties.
His work also extended beyond the property owners association itself. Brookhaven officials said Collins regularly made the MBPOA facility available to other community organizations, providing a space for local groups to meet and hold events.
Kesnig’s recognition highlighted Collins’ long-term involvement in Mastic Beach and his role in supporting civic life across the hamlet.
For communities like Mastic Beach, local civic associations often serve as a connection point between residents, government and neighborhood organizations. The Mastic Beach Property Owners Association has long been part of that local network, and Collins’ tenure as president put him at the center of many of those efforts.
The September recognition marked the end of one chapter in Collins’ civic leadership, while also acknowledging the years he spent helping organize events, improve local facilities and support other community groups.
Brookhaven formally posted the recognition on September 25.
