    Bronx Artist Viso Is Building a Catalog Worth Watching

    BRONX, NY — Bronx artist Viso is beginning to attract a wider audience with “Run It Up,” but the record is far from his first move.

    Released through Muggaking.Ent, “Run It Up” arrived in January 2026 and has recently gained additional traction through its music video rollout. Apple Music lists the record as a Muggaking.Ent release, adding another chapter to a catalog Viso has been building since at least 2022. 

    For listeners just discovering him, one of the best places to understand Viso’s trajectory is Murder Was the Case They Gave Me, his eight-song 2022 project released through Muggaking.Ent. The album includes records such as “DBOY” featuring N.O.V, “80’s Baby” featuring 80 Reef, “Activated” featuring JHETTAHEAT, and “In Love With Ya.” 

    His catalog expanded again in 2023 with “Plug Talk” and “Mentirosa.” 

    But perhaps the most significant earlier placement came with “Tryin to Get a Bloc,” a collaboration with JHETTAHEAT and DJ Drama that appeared on French Montana and DJ Drama’s Coke Boys 6: Money Heist Edition. Apple Music credits the single to Viso, DJ Drama and JHETTAHEAT, while the full project places the track among a lineup of established and developing artists connected to the Coke Boys universe. 

    Viso followed that period with additional releases including “We Can’t Stop Now” and the 2025 single “Coke in the Water,” also released through Muggaking.Ent. 

    That history gives “Run It Up” more context. Rather than appearing as a one-off viral record, it represents another step in an independent catalog that has already included a full-length project, collaborations and a notable appearance alongside DJ Drama and the Coke Boys brand.

    The Bronx has never lacked emerging voices, which makes consistency important for any artist trying to separate from the pack. Viso’s advantage is that there is already material behind the current attention.

    With “Run It Up” generating new visibility, listeners discovering Viso now have several years of records to go back and explore.

    Carozza Campaign Picks Up Steam With Well-Attended East Quogue Fundraiser

    EAST QUOGUE, NY — Richard Carozza’s campaign for Southampton Town Supervisor is picking up activity as Election Day approaches, with a well-attended fundraiser Thursday night at Dockers Waterside Restaurant in East Quogue.

    The September 17 event brought together supporters, local residents and familiar Southampton political figures for an evening that also featured recording artist Samantha Cole.

    Among those attending were former Southampton Town Trustees Scott Horowitz and Ed Warner Jr., Southampton Town Republican Committee Vice Chairman Raheem Soto, and other members of the community.

    The Dockers gathering comes as Carozza moves further into the fall phase of his campaign. His official campaign website lists the East Quogue fundraiser among his campaign events and identifies housing affordability, Town Hall accountability, reducing government red tape, protecting water quality and expanding sewers among his stated priorities. 

    Carozza is the Southampton Republican Committee’s nominee for Town Supervisor in the November 2026 election and is challenging incumbent Supervisor Maria Moore. 

    The campaign has increasingly focused on direct voter engagement as the election draws closer, with the Dockers fundraiser providing another opportunity for Carozza to meet residents and build visibility across Southampton Town.

    HICKSVILLE, N.Y. — North Carolina recording artist Dubb Bankroll added a significant achievement to his growing résumé on September 13, capturing the First Annual Fred the Godson Hip Hop Award during the Ablaze Microphone Masters Showcase at Valentino’s in Hicksville, New York.

    The showcase brought together emerging hip-hop artists competing for an award created in recognition of the late Bronx rapper Fred the Godson, whose lyricism and dedication to hip-hop earned him considerable respect within the culture.

    For Dubb Bankroll, a Richmond County, North Carolina native, the victory represents another step in a career that has increasingly extended beyond his home state.

    From Richmond County to a New York Stage

    Dubb Bankroll entered the showcase as an independent artist who has been steadily building his catalog and audience through music rooted in Southern hip-hop, melodic rap, street narratives and personal experiences.

    His performance at Valentino’s ultimately earned him the event’s top distinction: the inaugural Fred the Godson Hip Hop Award.

    Winning the first edition of the award carries particular significance because Dubb Bankroll’s name will now be permanently associated with the beginning of what organizers intend to establish as an annual hip-hop honor.

    The New York victory comes as Dubb Bankroll continues working to expand his profile heading through 2026.

    According to the artist’s press materials, he was born and raised in Richmond County and has developed a following through consistent releases, live appearances and an independent approach to building his career.

    His team says his music has accumulated millions of streams across digital platforms, with material connected to the Zack Goins project accounting for more than 10 million streams.

    His press materials also state that Dubb Bankroll previously received a record-deal offer from Master P’s No Limit Records, an opportunity he ultimately did not pursue. He instead followed another path that included an affiliation with YPC, described in his materials as being connected to the late Richmond County NFL player Melvin Ingram.

    Those career decisions have become part of Dubb Bankroll’s larger story: pursuing national opportunities while continuing to build his identity on his own terms.

    The So So Def founder has ended his federal lawsuit against Sony Music Entertainment after the two sides told the court they had resolved the matter.

    Jermaine Dupri and his So So Def companies have dropped a lawsuit that sought at least $18 million from Sony Music Entertainment over disputed royalty payments.

    Dupri, So So Def Recordings and So So Def Productions filed the case July 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The complaint accused Sony of underreporting or withholding royalties connected to recordings involving artists including Kris Kross, Xscape, Da Brat and Jagged Edge. 

    On Aug. 28, Dupri’s attorney filed a voluntary dismissal stating that the parties had resolved the matter. The case was dismissed without prejudice, meaning the claims were not decided on their merits and could potentially be brought again. Sony had not filed a response to the allegations before the dismissal. 

    The filing does not disclose the terms of the resolution, whether Sony made any payment, or whether any royalty-accounting practices changed.

    The original complaint said a 2025 audit uncovered alleged royalty discrepancies and sought at least $18 million plus interest and attorneys’ fees. Those claims were allegations and were never adjudicated by the court. 

    The dispute highlights a longstanding issue in the music business: how artists, producers and labels verify royalty accounting under decades-old recording agreements.

    A new hip-hop showcase on Long Island will honor the legacy of late Bronx rapper Fred the Godson while giving emerging artists an opportunity to perform, gain media exposure and compete for an award bearing his name.

    The Ablaze Microphone Masters Showcase is scheduled for September 13 at Valentino’s in Hicksville, New York, according to promotional materials provided by event organizers.

    The event will feature the presentation of the inaugural Fred the Godson Hip Hop Award, created in recognition of the respected New York lyricist whose music and reputation within hip-hop earned him a devoted following.

    Fred the Godson, born Frederick Thomas, emerged from the Bronx rap scene and became known for his intricate wordplay, punchlines and freestyle ability before his death in 2020.

    The new award places that lyrical tradition at the center of the showcase.

    Organizers say one performer will be selected based on a combination of audience response, stage presence and song quality.

    The selected artist will receive the Fred the Godson Hip Hop Award, which promotional materials say will be presented on Shea Baby TV by Loose Kannons Records.

    The winner is also expected to receive an interview on The Hype Promo Show, which airs on Roku TV, along with an appearance in the “Welcome to the Cypher” series.

    But the competition is only part of the event.

    According to organizers, every participating performer is expected to receive promotional opportunities including a radio interview, a video showcase through Ablaze and associated media platforms, and potential coverage through several participating entertainment publications.

    The showcase will be hosted by Terrell Blair, with DJ Eaz providing music and Ty Wizz TV recording the event.

    Admission is listed at $20 at the door.
